David Roberts’ breakdown of the Keystone XL fight includes an argument that organizing around ‘supply side’ projects like oil pipelines (vs. energy efficiency or broad policies such as a carbon tax) helps to overcome “some of the natural disadvantages of organizing around climate…” since such campaigns have “clear villains, unambiguous markers of success, and local impacts that help draw support from other affected communities and demographics.”
