From dollars to divestment: how climate finance offers a creative avenue towards decarbonization
April 11, 2024
I first learned about the term “climate finance” in 2021 and immediately resonated with the creative perspective behind the strategic analysis. We know that shutting down fossil fuel projects through NVDA works. Tactics have been employed to continue moving the public narrative around these companies and fossil fuel extraction, like campaigns to get fossil fuel companies out of environmental conferences like COP, and movements targeting the recruitment pipeline for these institutions. I view Climate Finance as an extension of these tactics, utilizing power mapping to understand what is allowing the continued expansion of fossil fuels in the face of growing urgency around climate change.

We analyzed $570,000 in IRA ad spend and found…
March 28, 2024
Over the past 20 years working in the climate movement, I’ve been part of both countless campaigns to secure a “transformational win” and countless attempts to support better sharing of data, testing, and other advocacy lessons learned. Today, the Lab is thrilled to launch a new IRA Data & Insights Hub in partnership with impact agency 89up, which collects and synthesizes IRA campaign data, translating the results into actionable insights to inform advocacy and communication strategies. A huge thank you to the 23 organizations (and counting) who have generously contributed their testing results to the Hub!

From divergence to convergence: Examining the energy transition expectations of oil and gas executives and investors
January 1, 2023
Amid a growing focus on net-zero, a recent Deloitte survey compares the expectations of oil and gas (O&G) executives and institutional investors around the energy transition. O&G companies cite a 28% average reduction in emissions over the last three years and remain confident about achieving a 50%–60% reduction in emissions by 2030. Additionally, there is a recognition that the O&G industry offers high dividend and buyback yield to investors, leading all industries with a combined yield of 8% in 2022. Although their paths toward net-zero might not be completely aligned, there seems to be a shared consensus between executives and investors on the industry’s potential to achieve its overarching goal.
