    What we know about how to talk about climate justice

    June 28, 2023

    A Climate Advocacy Lab training focused on the latest climate justice messaging research, our recommendations, and how to apply them to your work, including:

    An overview of what polling research reveals about what Americans across communities understand (and don’t) about the connection between climate change and social justice;
    What message testing tells us about the most engaging ways to talk about climate justice, such as by leveraging “moral emotions;” and
    How to avoid triggering backfire, and the situations in which focusing on climate injustice may—or may not—increase support for addressing it.

    How the Lab Trained for Impact

    May 25, 2023

    When the Training Team was given the task of building out our Training for Impact Spring 2023 cohort, my wheels immediately started turning; my thoughts kept bringing me to my own experience as a brand new organizer in the climate justice space. Thinking about my own experience and how trainings, peer-to-peer learning, and relationship opportunities supported me in my journey as an organizer and an advocate, I was so excited to build out a program that encapsulated those key aspects with the Lab’s Training Team. Read on to learn how we built out the 2023 Training For Impact cohort!

    Organizing Lessons Learned from the Campaign to Stop the Atlantic Coast Pipeline in North Carolina

    May 19, 2023

    Campaign wins don’t happen without broad-based, community organizing on the ground in the communities most impacted by the pipeline. Effective and successful climate campaigns require a combination of multiple strategies and actions, garnering as much organized influence on the local, state, national, and even international level. Welcome and support new leaders who’ve never been involved and respect them, even when their political and cultural views are different than your own. There is great need for building community and mutual support. A powerful key to victory was the collection and widespread dissemination of valid, reliable, and culturally responsive and competent research and use it wisely in the campaign alongside the power of committed and able people. This report documents organizing lessons learned from the experience of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline in North Carolina.
