People in frontline and non-frontline communities in the U.S. are equally worried about global warming (both groups 65%). However, people in frontline communities are slightly more worried about impacts such as extreme heat and power outages.People in frontline communities are less likely to hear about global warming from friends and family or to know about the scientific consensus that global warming is happening. Geographic analysis shows that frontline communities that are most worried about global warming tend to be in the Southwest and Texas, while those that are least worried tend to be in the Appalachians and Ozarks. A new interactive StoryMap explores these differences in more detail.

Core organizing tactics help no matter what movement you’re in and it’s important we recognize our power and our network, and work in solidarity across movements. This month, I want to uplift the legacy of Black organizers who’ve taught us how to fight at the intersections – of race, land, labor, gender, climate, and liberation. When the world tells us to pick one lane, Black movements remind us: We are the lane.

GoodPower conducted focus groups to understand how people in Arizona view battery energy storage system (BESS) projects and their concerns about energy issues. They did four focus groups (n = 30) with residents of Pinal and Maricopa counties, key areas for renewable energy development, and two (n = 12) with residents of rural and ex-urban areas of Arizona. The sample in Pinal and Maricopa generally reflected local demographics while the rural participants were predominantly male, white, older, and conservative.
