In the age of misinformation and polarization, conversations about climate change can be emotionally draining, especially when they involve people we love. Navigating these moments requires not only facts, but boundaries, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to our own mental well being.

Current energy and water systems are failing us. Too often, corporate shareholder profits are prioritized over providing affordable, clean energy and water to our communities. While profits break records, millions have their power and water shutoff and accumulate debt turning these essential services back on. We’re launching the “Utilities for All” playbook to point the path towards a world where utility bills are affordable, with no risk of shutoff or mountains of debt accumulating in sight.

The session will cover legal rights, what ICE can and can't legally do, updates on ICE tactics, appropriate responses to ICE interactions, and what to do if someone is detained.

This session prepares climate advocates to respond effectively to security incidents while creating lasting organizational security practices.

In these times, I’ve found myself called back to the words of Dean Spade in his 2020 book, Mutual Aid. The book opens with Spade’s reflections on mutual aid where he shares:
“Mutual Aid has been a part of all large, powerful social movements, and it has a particularly important role to play right now, as we face unprecedented dangers and opportunities for mobilization. Mutual aid gives people a way to plug into movements based on their immediate concerns, and it produces social spaces where people grow new solidarities. At its best, mutual aid actually produces new ways of living where people get to create systems of care and generality that address harms and foster well-being.”
