Conservation Minnesota Legislator Accountability Test
Voters are more likely to support their legislators if they are informed that their legislator acted in line with their constituents’ opinions. Being informed that a legislator acts out of step with their constituents’ opinions, however, does not decrease support. In other words, support is boosted by showing alignment between voters and legislator, but support does not decrease when voters and legislator do not align. Advocates should consider focusing campaigns on giving praise to increase support, rather than scolding to decrease support.
