A case study of the investments and strategy to build an inclusive and powerful climate movement in Minnesota that resulted in wins such as the state’s 2023 100% clean energy law. Identifies a number of funding strategies that contributed to growing the movement and a range of policy victories, which funders elsewhere may wish to employ. This case study holds lessons for climate funders seeking to expand their giving to non-traditional climate grantees; non-partisan civic engagement funders wishing to enable favorable policy environments; and movement strategists and community organizers seeking to build coalitions and secure durable policy wins.

In our final IRA Data & Insights Hub report of the year, we share how partners in our Field Research Program are building evidence-based messaging to persuade communities on the benefits of clean energy and climate justice solutions. We are thrilled to share this week’s newsletter with Philly Thrive, one of our 2024 Climate Justice Micrograntees. Philly Thrive is based in the Grays Ferry neighborhood in Philadelphia and has worked for nearly a decade to correct environmental injustices in South Philly, primarily related to the PES oil refinery. In 2020, they successfully closed it down.
