This article reveals that opposition to offshore wind on the U.S. East Coast is driven by a hybrid network of local groups, fossil fuel interests, and national climate denial organizations. These local groups are not purely grassroots nor fully manufactured but instead rely heavily on “information subsidies” from think tanks to spread misleading narratives. The study warns that this coordinated opposition poses a significant threat to renewable energy development in the U.S.
