This worksheet was adapted from the Relational Organizing training series in Febraury 2021. In conjunction with the Relational Organizing guide and tipsheet, use this workbook to design your own relational organzing plan. The workbook covers the basics of relational organizing, from vision to building transformation relationships to integrating cultural organizing into your plan.           

This session was recorded on June 17, 2021. It was led by Yash Mori, the Managing Director of the Digital Climate Coalition, who built a cadre of 5000 volunteers at Indivisible all working to combat the disinformation that riddled the coverage of the 2020 election. After a 30 minute presentation Yash took questions from the audience for the second half of the session.
His presentation covered five elements of buiding a volunteer team to help fight disinformation, showcased current examples from ongoing work, and concluded with audience questions. The PDF of his deck is available for download by hitting the button above.

In this blog post from January 2021, Brittany Bennett, the Data Director for Sunrise Movement, argues that in order to become a data-driven organization, the people in charge of the data and data management need to be oriented towards serving the organizers as their first priority. “[W]when you cannot deliver accurate results quick to organizers, you lose their buy in to your system. And when your organizers do not use your systems, your organizations becomes less data driven.”

In this blog post from May 2021, Brittany Bennett, the Data Director for Sunrise Movement, breaks down her five metrics for measuring people power in a movement. Using a table of all a supporter’s actions over the course of their engagement with Sunrise in chronological order – the “one table to rule them all – Ms. Bennett identifies five metrics that offer insight into the efficacy of an organization’s organizing and campaign work. She delineates each of them links them back to the table, and show how they can be used to align an organization’s programs in order to maximize its organizing.    

This training focused on the use of five elements in combination to implement a successful growth strategy built around Facebook ads. “Growth” in this case means growing your list of supporters, donors, organizing leads, etc. This training used a case study of the Allinace for Climate Education’s 2020 voter registration program to show how using the five elements can help build lists while also meeting more complex goals. The trainings also includes an in-depth discussion of how the elements work together and approaches to take to help you evaluate progress and troubleshoot challenges.
